Iron Ore Capacity Expansion

On June 27, 2026, Hancock Iron Ore announced that its McPhee Creek mine in Western Australia's Pilbara region produced its first batch of iron ore, which has been shipped to Roy Hill for processing. The new greenfield project is expected to have an annual capacity of approximately 8 million tonnes with a mine life of 15 years. The commissioning of McPhee Creek will help enhance Roy Hill's long-term operational stability and product blend quality, further securing high-quality iron ore supply.

Additionally, the project will involve upgrading the 92-kilometre Marble Bar road in cooperation with the Western Australian state government to improve local traffic and emergency access. Currently, the mine camp can accommodate approximately 200 workers. The company stated this move will extend Roy Hill's mine life, continue contributing taxes to the government, and support local employment. Industry analysts believe that while this marks progress for Hancock in expanding capacity, the short-term impact on global iron ore market supply and demand is limited; subsequent production ramp-up remains to be watched.
